Hotel Lobby Screens: Beyond the Welcome Message
What actually earns a second look from guests at a hotel lobby screen — live forex rates, event schedules, and amenity hours — beyond a static welcome banner.
Most hotel lobby screens say one thing: “Welcome to [Hotel Name].” It’s not wrong, but it’s also not something a guest looks at twice. The screens that actually get attention are the ones showing something the guest needs right now — today’s event schedule, the pool hours, or a currency rate if there’s an exchange desk nearby.
What guests actually check a lobby screen for
Event and conference schedules. A guest attending a conference doesn’t want to ask the front desk which room a session moved to — they want to glance at a screen. When a schedule changes last-minute, updating it once in the dashboard pushes the change to every floor’s elevator display and the lobby screen within 30 seconds, ahead of the first attendee noticing the room was wrong.
Amenity hours. Spa, restaurant, and pool hours differ, and printed cards get lost or go stale after a seasonal change. A Store Hours widget shows the correct hours for each amenity automatically, with a live Open/Closed indicator so a guest doesn’t walk to a closed pool.
Live exchange rates. For hotels near an exchange desk, a live forex rate board pulling real ECB rates and refreshing every 15 minutes is something a guest traveling internationally will actually stop and read — far more than a static welcome graphic.
The screens most hotels are missing
A local area guide or a scrolling news ticker with local event headlines gives international guests something a static “Welcome” screen never will: a reason to actually look. Property videos — destination highlight reels, suite showcases — work as ambient content in a lobby that otherwise has nothing to look at while guests wait to check in.
What’s actually available for hotel signage
Atracast’s hotel & hospitality module includes the live forex widget, amenity-specific Store Hours, a news ticker for local headlines, an announcement board with urgency levels for event schedules and building notices, and an emergency override that pushes an evacuation or safety notice to every screen on the property within seconds.
What to check before setting up lobby screens
- Does the screen show something guests actually need (hours, events, rates) or just a static welcome graphic?
- Does an event schedule change reach every elevator and lobby screen within seconds?
- Are amenity hours correct automatically, or does someone update printed cards?
- Is there an emergency override that reaches every screen on the property at once?
