How Much Does Digital Signage Software Actually Cost in 2026?
A breakdown of how digital signage platforms price their software in 2026 - per-screen fees, storage tiers, feature gating, and hidden costs to watch for before you sign a contract.
If you’ve spent any time comparing digital signage platforms, you’ve probably noticed the pricing pages don’t make it easy. Some charge per screen, some charge per “location,” some lock core features behind a higher tier, and almost all of them add storage or bandwidth fees once you scale past a handful of displays. Here’s what actually drives the cost, and what to check before you commit.
The three pricing models you’ll run into
Per-screen pricing. You pay a flat monthly fee for every device registered to your account. This is the most transparent model because your bill scales exactly with your usage - add a screen, the price goes up by a fixed amount; remove one, it goes down. Atracast uses this model: $9 per active screen per month, with every feature included regardless of how many screens you run.
Tiered plans. You pick a bucket - “Starter,” “Pro,” “Enterprise” - that caps your screen count and storage, and jumping to the next bucket means a big price jump even if you only needed one more screen or a few extra gigabytes. This works fine if your screen count is stable, but it gets expensive fast for anyone opening new locations.
Feature-gated pricing. The base price looks cheap, but the features you actually need - a menu board widget, background music, multi-location device groups, an API - are locked behind a higher tier or sold as add-ons. Read the feature comparison table carefully; this is where most “cheap” platforms make their money back.
Questions to ask before you sign
- Does the price include every feature, or are menu boards, scheduling, and multi-location management extra?
- What happens when I add a screen mid-month - prorated, or do I wait for the next billing cycle?
- Is there a storage cap, and what’s the overage fee if I exceed it?
- Can I deregister a screen and stop paying for it immediately, or is there a minimum commitment?
- Do I need proprietary hardware, or does it run on the smart TV / Fire Stick / Android box I already own?
That last one matters more than most buyers realize. A platform that requires a $150 proprietary media player per screen has effectively doubled your real cost before the software subscription even starts.
What “all features included” actually looks like
At Atracast, every account - regardless of screen count - gets the full platform: the drag-and-drop slide designer, playlist builder with background music and transitions, scheduling with day-parting and recurrence, service menu widgets for restaurants and retail, multi-location device groups, and the content approval workflow. There’s one number on the pricing page: $9 per screen per month. See the full breakdown on our pricing page.
The real cost comparison
When you’re comparing quotes, normalize everything to a single “cost per screen per month, all features included” number. A platform advertising $5/screen that gates menu boards behind a $40/month add-on is more expensive than a flat $9/screen plan the moment you need that feature - and most signage buyers do.
